LIFE STORY OF CHARLES J. GREEN, 77

Charles Julius Green was born at Glenwood, Iowa, January 17, 1879. He died at his home in Shelby, March 12, 1956, at the age of 77 years, one month, and five days.

He attended school in the Plumer settlement near Glenwood and received confirmation instruction in the Lutheran church. At the time of his death he was a member of the United Evangelical Lutheran church at Shelby.

He was united in marriage to Mary Phifer at Glenwood in 1905. To this union two daughters, Viola and Elda were born. They lived on a farm near Persia and in 1918 they moved to Shelby. His wife, Mary, died in 1924.

He married Alice Funk of Persia in 1925 and to this union a daughter, Mariann, was born. From the years 1931 to 1942, they lived on farms in Corley and Menlo. His wife, Alice, died in 1942 and he moved back to Shelby to make his home.

In the year 1945 he married Mary Kern of Shelby and the couple made their home in Shelby.

Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. WIlliam Miller (Viola) of Shelby, Mrs. George Woodward, (Elda) of Valley, Nebr., and Mrs. Robert Martens (Mariann) of Persia. Also a brother, Will Green of Denver, Colo., a sister, Mrs. Leon Wait of Council Bluffs, and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in Shelby March 15, with the Rev. Stanley L. Carlson in charge. Burial was in Plumer Settlement, near Glenwood.

SHELBY—Funeral services for Charles J. Green, 77, who died Monday night at his home after a short illness, will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Stanley Carlsen, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Plumer settlement cemetery near Council Bluffs, with the Blust-Berthusen Funeral Home in charge.

Born in Glenwood, he lived in the Shelby community most of his life. He was a retired farmer.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Green; three daughters, Mrs. William Miller of Shelby, Mrs. Robert Martin of Persia, and Mrs. George Woodward of Valley, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Leon Wait of Council Bluffs; and a brother, Will Green of Denver, Colo.
