Pioneer Farmer Dies

Henry A. Green, pioneer of Mills and Pottawattamie counties, where he has made his home for the past sixty years, died at 6 o'clock Thursday morning at his home nine miles southeast of Council Bluffs. Death was due to paralysis, from which Mr. Green had been a sufferer for the past eight weeks.

Mr. Green was a native of Schleswig, Germany, having been born there February 27, 1833. He came to this country early in life and served one year in the war between the states. Mr. Green came west before the advent of the railroads and for several years was driver of a stage running between Nebraska City and Denver. Shortly after the close of the civil war Mr. Green settled on the farm in Mills county on which he was living at the time of his death and which he occupied continuously for forty-eight years.

He is survived by the widow and six children. The children are Mrs. Wilhelmina Wiseman, Logan; Mrs. Sarah Waite, Mills county; Gustave A. Green, Hastings, Minn.; Chris F. Green, Pottawattamie county, Charles G. Green, Persia, and William D. Green, at home. One son Louis H. Green, died five years ago.

The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the German Lutheran church in Plumer settlement of which the deceased was a member. Rev. Hoff of Treynor officiated. A short prayer service was held at the residence at 1 o'clock. Burial was made in the Plumer cemetery.

Henry A. Green, a pioneer settler of the north part of Mills County, died early last Thursday morning at his home in Oak Township, where the Blue Grass road drops from the bluffs into the valley of the Missouri and which had been his home for sixty years. Death followed infirmities incident to old age aggravated by several attacks of paralysis the final stroke having visited him some two months ago.

The funeral services were held Sunday at the German Lutheran Church in the Plumer settlement and was conducted by the Rev. Hoff of Treynor.
