Max Osler, 88, Bellevue, Neb.

Max R. Osler, age 88, of Bellevue, Neb., formerly of Malvern, died on July 25, 2006, at his daughter's home in Bellevue. Funeral Services were held July 28, 2006, at United Methodist Church in Malvern. The officiant was Pastor Gordon Scott. Military rites were performed by Glenwood American Legion, Harvey T. Rimel Post #141. Interment was in the Plumer Settlement Cemetery in Glenwood.

Mr. Osler, one of six children of Clyde Albert Osler and Myra Ann (King) Osler, was born on February 22, 1918 in Carson, Iowa. He attended school in Carson until the eighth grade and then worked on the farm.

On July 1, 1939, Max and Marjorie Marie Boyd of Oakland, were married in Papillion, Neb. Their marriage was blessed with eight children, Kenneth Ray, Judith Marlene, Donald Dean, Ronald Lee, Randy Wayne, Michael Raymond, Steven Douglas, and Laurie Ann. They made their home on a farm near Carson where Marjorie enjoyed her role as a mother and homemaker and Mr. Osler operated the farm using teams and a wheel tractor in his work and also raised livestock and poultry.

He entered the United States Army on April 28, 1944 and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater with the 129th Infantry Regiment and the 727th Amphibian Tractor Battalion where he was a truck driver. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal “for meritorious service beyond the call of duty” in the Luzon campaign. In February 1946, he returned home to Carson.

Through the years, he continued to farm and they lived near Council Bluffs and Hastings, before retiring to Malvern, Iowa in 1983. He enjoyed gardening, attending rodeos, riding horses and using his horses to pull his sleigh and covered wagon.

In 1991, the couple moved to Bellevue, Neb. They had been married almost 56 years at the time of her death on May 24, 1995. Mr. Osler continued to live in Bellevue. One of his loves was going to dances at the Eagles Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Randy and son Kenneth Osler; wife Marjorie Osler; infant brother Loren; sisters, Norma Massaro, Velma Eckert, Maxine Wallinga, and Sadie Westenburg. He is survived by his children; Judy Jackson and husband Larry of Des Moines; Donald Osler of Holton, Kan.; Ronald Osler and wife Anita of Skokie, Ill.; Mike Osler of Silver City; Steve Osler and wife Karen of Glenwood; and Laurie McClemons and husband Dick of Bellevue, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
