Earl Shelby

MINEOLA — Earl Shelby, 85, of Glenwood died Jan. 8 at Glen Haven Nursing Home in Glenwood.

He was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Glenwood to Clarence and Hazel (Cogley) Shelby. He farmed at Stanton and Silver City for many years.

Mr. Shelby was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Huff), in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Lees and husband, Charles, of Avoca and Janice Kruse and husband, Dean, of Glenwood; a sister, Jennie Linneman, of Omaha; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hardiman-Raynor Funeral Home in Glenwood. Funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Mineola with the Rev. Stephany Sanborn officiating. Burial will be in the Plumer Settlement Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to the Plumer Settlement Church.

Earl Evan Shelby, 85, of Glenwood died January 8, 2001 at the Glen Haven Nursing Home in Glenwood. Funeral services were January 11, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola with burial in the Plumer Settlement Cemetery. Pastor Stephany Sanborn officiated the services.

Mr. Shelby was the son of Clarence and Hazel (Cogley) Shelby, born January 1, 1916 in Glenwood. He was married to Dorothy Huff on August 31, 1939. He farmed in Stanton and Silver City for many years and was a great train lover.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986; and sisters, Myrtle Kleenke, Mary Pharoah and two sisters in infancy.

Survivors include his daughters, JoAnn and husband Charles Lees of Avoca, and Janice and husband Dan Kruse of Glenwood; grandchildren, Paul and wife Suzanne Lees of Walnut, Cheryl Lees of Avondale, Ariz., Kent Kruse and wife Lisa of Geneva, Ill., and Shelley Williams and husband Tim of Omaha, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Erika, Blaine and Ashley Lees, Cassidy and Cade Williams; sister, Jennie Linneman of Omaha; and nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Plumer Settlement Church. Hardiman-Raynor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
